The Brebeuf girls soccer team won its 17th consecutive game and raised its season mark to 21-1-1 with a 4-1 convincing victory over Columbus North in IHSAA Class 2A Semi State action in Evansville Saturday morning. The defending state champion Braves, who have outscored their last 17 opponents 75-6, will play Terre Haute North (2-0 winners over Franklin Central) for the semi state title on Saturday night at Evansville Central.
Brebeuf got on the board first with just 15 minutes into the contest when junior Kayla Fitts scored off a pass from junior Alexa Holl. Just :47 later freshman Paige Edens scored off a rebound shot from sophomore Brianna Arthur to give the Braves a 2-0 advantage.
The Braves allowed their first goal since Sept. 21 (nine straight shutout wins; 15 overall) with just :04 to play in the first half on a corner kick own goal and led 2-1 at intermission.
Junior Hallie Pearson (team high 15 goals) improved Brebeuf’s lead to 3-1 with 24:26 to play in the game on a goal off an assist from seniors Natalie Kelley and Alia Martin. Martin, the Braves senior All American, closed the scoring with her 14th goal of the campaign off an assist from Fitts.
The Braves outshot Columbus North 18-4.
Senior goalie Lauren Turner played the first half and had two saves while junior tender Reni Osuntokun was in net the second half and had two saves.
