Katherine Modrall and Brebeuf Braves Take All-Catholics

The All-Catholic Cross Country Championships took place on Saturday morning at Guerin Catholic High School in Noblesville with several Circle City Conference teams ending up near the top of the leaderboard.  Brebeuf Jesuit’s girls took home the title with a total team score of 33.  They were led by Medalist (and defending CCC Champion) Katherine Modrall, sophomore sensation Zoe Simmons (4th overall), and Katie O’Donnell (5th).  Guerin Catholic finished in 4th behind the strong running of Ellie Schroeder (7th), Paige Schemanske (10th), and Bea Perez (16th).  Bishop Chatard finished in 7th and Roncalli came in 8th.

Guerin Catholic’s boys managed to nip defending CCC Champions Brebeuf, 101-103, to grab second place overall.  CCC Champion Quinn Gallagher finished 2nd overall with a time of 15:50.7.  His and teammate Andrew Hall’s times were the best from Guerin Catholic.  Christian Stevens (6th), Jack Kovach (8th), and Colin Chambers (21st) led the way for Brebeuf.  Nathan Kolbus (7th) turned in the best time for Chatard, while Nick Perkins (9th) did the same for Roncalli.

Having been the location of the Joe Harvey Conference Championships three weeks prior, these races provided an ideal opportunity to measure improvement.  Modrall, whose previous time of 18:57.35 was good enough to win the conference title, shaved off a mind-blowing 53 seconds to finish in 18:03.4.  Guerin Catholic’s Schroeder also improved by 54 seconds.  On the boys’ side, the most impressive improvement was turned in by Chatard’s Korbus who took off just under a full minute.
