Braves Clinch Title (BLAX)

Brebeuf Jesuit – The in-conference game between Heritage Christian and Brebeuf Jesuit turned out to be a royal battle for the conference championship. Brebeuf entered the game having already beaten other conference foes, Bishop Chatard and Guerin Catholic. The win brought the Braves to 3-0 in the conference.  With Guerin Catholic being the only team capable of reaching three wins and Brebeuf having already beaten them head-to-head, Tuesday’s victory secured the Circle City Conference Championship for the Braves.
The 1st quarter started off like a boxing title fight with both teams feeling each other out and taking shots where they saw potential weaknesses. By the end of the 1st quarter, Brebuef took the initial lead, scoring 3 goals and limiting Heritage Christian to only 1 goal. Will King, Aidan Itamura and Michael Kennedy all contributed in this opening quarter.
In the 2nd quarter, Heritage Christian would take the round, scoring 3 goals and limiting the Braves to only 2 goals. Will King and Erik Klem would contribute the scoring for Brebeuf in this quarter.
The start of the second half showed that both teams had learned a lot about each other in the first and would quickly apply would they picked up. The 3rd quarter would end up being a defensive battle for both teams with both goalies stepping up their game and consistently turning away potential goals. Erik Klem provided the only Braves goal for the quarter while Heritage Christian could only come up with 1 goal as well. By the end of the 3rd quarter, the Braves will hold on to a slim lead 6-5.
The final 4th quarter would write the story for the entire game. Aidan Itamura would draw first blood with an unassisted goal at the 11:25 mark after Henry Goldenberg won the face-off and quickly advanced it to the offense. Will King would follow up with another goal at the 11:13 mark with another unassisted goal. Heritage Christian took a quick time-out to try to slow down the Braves, but Brebeuf was on a roll. Brebeuf’s next score would come at the 10:54 mark with another unassisted goal by Aidan Itamura. The Braves would score 2 more goals at the 6:56 mark and 6:35 mark before Heritage would get a goal of their own. Eventually, Heritage Christian would score 2 late goals in the forth for a final score of Brebeuf Jesuit 11 – Heritage Christian 7.
The Braves are now 9-5 and will play Hamilton Southeastern on Friday, followed by a trip to South Bend on Saturday to play St. Joseph High School.
