Covenant tops Rebels (BBB)

Covenant Christian –  The Boys Basketball team (2-0, 1-0) picked up their first Circle City Conference win of the season on Saturday night, a 62-55 win at Roncalli HS.  The Warriors utilized a big second quarter from the second team off of the bench, outscoring the Rebels 21-10 in the quarter on their way to the win.  The CCHS bench outscored the Roncalli bench 27-18.

Junior Graham Shelton had a team-high 16 points on 4-for-8 shooting from 3-point range.  CCHS went 13-for-26 from the arc, while their suffocating defense held the Rebels to 0-for-13 from range.  RHS dominated the undersized Warriors on the glass, 36 to 15, which helped Roncalli claw back into the game in the third quarter, cutting the lead down to as low as three.  Covenant hung tough and battled through the final ten minutes, hitting some clutch free throws late to help seal the game.  CCHS went 11-for-13 from the line for the night.

Senior Sam Fulbright and Junior Luke Shelton each chipped in 11 points in the win.  Fulbright also had a team-high 5 rebounds, while Sophomore Brock Buckley grabbed four boards and had a team-high four assists on the night.  Junior Anthony Donahue led RHS with a game-high 19 points, while Seniors Daniel Asher and Chuck McGinsie each added ten. Freshman Nicholas Stewart pulled down 12 rebounds, while Asher grabbed seven.

The Warriors will hit the road again on Tuesday night, as they travel to Roachdale, IN for a JV/V doubleheader at North Putnam HS (2-1).  They will then return home to Andrew Smith Court on Thursday night, as they host Class 1A #9 Greenwood Christian Academy.  The varsity game will be webcast on Indiana SRN.

Roncalli – The varsity Rebels were defeated by Covenant Christian by a score of 62-55.  Anthony Donahue led the Rebels with 17 points while Danny Asher and Matthew Babb added 10 apiece.  Aidan Looney had 12 rebounds as well.
