Roncalli Freshmen Alec Viduya Wins Wresting State Championship!!

VIDUYA WINS STATE WRESTLING TITLE
Roncalli High School freshman Alec Viduya earned four victories over the last two days to capture the IHSAA state wrestling title in the 113-pound class.  In his semifinal match, Viduya defeated Avon sophomore Asa Garcia, who won a state title last season.  In the championship match, Viduya won by decision over Jimtown sophomore Hunter Watts 7-4.  Viduya is Roncalli’s fourth individual wrestling state champion and the first since 1985.  He joins Don Mappes (1976, 145 pounds), Duane Lutgring (1980, 185 pounds) and Chris Maxwell (1985, 167 pounds) as Roncalli wrestlers with state titles.  All of Roncalli’s three previous wrestling state champions accomplished the feat in their senior seasons.
Viduya finished his first season of high school wrestling with a 47-2 record.  His teammate and fellow freshman, Tyce Freije, finished eighth in the state in the 120-pound class.  Freije concluded his season with a 38-10 record.
