Brebeuf Jesuit Tops Guerin Catholic in Girls Soccer at IUPUI
Brebeuf – The No. 5 state-ranked Brebeuf Jesuit girls soccer team finished an impressive 11-day stretch in fine fashion Saturday afternoon at Carroll Stadium in downtown Indianapolis with a 1-0 victory over No. 3 ranked Guerin Catholic. In the last 11 days the Braves have tied the No. 7 team (Noblesville) in the state on the road and defeated No. 20 (Center Grove) & No. 3 (Guerin) away from home. The Braves, now 3-0-1, will play their first home contest of 2017 on Tuesday night at Varsity Field at 6 PM in a special “Kick Out Cancer” game vs. Heritage Christian.
After a hard-fought scoreless first half, the Braves netted the game’s only goal when senior captain Hallie Pearson took a pass from fellow senior captain Kayla Fitts just three minutes into the period and scored on a bullet into the far post.
Senior goalie Reni Osuntokun was again outstanding for Brebeuf with six saves in the shutout victory. Also playing well defensively for the Braves were: senior defender Jordan Smith, senior defender Hope Edens and junior defender Kate Gunderson.
Guerin – On a beautiful day on campus of IUPUI, the Golden Eagles hosted #18 (Nation) Brebeuf Jesuit.
Fans saw the game go back and forth, with each team creating a few exciting moments in front of goal. The groups took to halftime with a 0-0 score on the board.
The second half opened quick, with GCWS earning a fantastic scoring chance on goal in the first minute, that they were unable to convert. The Braves put their star Pearson in transition, and she converted just 90S in to the second half. That mark would prove to be the match winner in this CCC match up.
Senior goalkeeper Claire Gavin had two saves on the day.
