Guerin Catholic Wins Boys Soccer Title

The Roncalli Rebels hosted the Golden Eagles of Guerin Catholic this evening.  This was the first conference match of the season for the Rebels, but the last of four for the Golden Eagles.  Having won the previous three, Guerin Catholic needed only one more win to win the conference championship outright.
The first half was full of exciting scoring opportunities, but both goalkeepers were up to the task.  Daniel Woodruff came up big time and time again for the Rebels, while Will Oberndorfer matched him at the other end.  The scoreless tie was eventually broken in the second half when freshman Joseph Lafiosca was able to get the ball behind Woodruff.  Guerin Catholic would strike again later in the half.  This time it was senior captain Andrew Garvey finding the back of the night.  Lafiosca would score again late in the game after a brilliant pass set him up with a one-on-one with Woodruff.
The Golden Eagles secured the Circle City Conference championship with the win, finishing 4-0 in conference play.  The Rebels fell to 0-1 and will face Heritage Christian on Thursday and Bishop Chatard on Saturday.
