The Brebeuf Jesuit Braves managed to defend both their boys and girls cross country titles at the 2018 Circle City Conference Joe Harvey Cross Country Championships. Returning to Brebeuf after being held at Guerin Catholic in 2017, the event saw another dominating performance by the hosts. The boys bested second place Guerin Catholic by a tally of 35-53. The girls turned in an impressive 20-point performance, topping Guerin Catholic by 25 points.
Quinn Gallagher (Guerin Catholic) repeated as conference champion. He also earned his third consecutive All Conference honor. Nick Perkins (Roncalli), who Gallagher defeated by 0.29 seconds, also earned his third award in as many years. The finish was the closest in conference history, with Gallagher closing from a considerable distance in the last 500 meters. Jack Kovach improved from his fourth place finish in 2017 to come in 3rd.
Zoe Simmons (Brebeuf Jesuit) smoked the course. Her 18:40.19 time is the fastest in Joe Harvey history – faster than Katherine Modrall’s performance at Guerin Catholic in 2017 and 1:09.39 faster than Megan Slamkowski’s time on a wet Brebeuf course in 2016). Simmons was joined by teammates Madeline Keller, Kate Ricks, and Kaitlyn O’Donnell on the All Conference list. This marked the third time for Simmons, O’Donnell, and Ricks. Other third-timers included Guerin Catholic’s Paige Schemanske and Ellie Schroeder. Covenant Christian’s Ashlyn Hastings became the first CCHS runner to earn All Conference honors.
