Covenant Christian – The Boys Tennis team (7-1, 2-1) picked up a big Circle City Conference win last night, downing Heritage Christian 3-2. The victory will also have impact on the seeding of flights for this year’s City Tournament. The win improves the Warriors’ CCC record to 2-1 on the year.
The Warriors battled the heat and a tough opponent, able to put away enough flights for the win. With the matches at #1 Singles, #1 Doubles, and #2 Doubles going fairly quickly, CCHS rallied to win the last two flights to secure the match.
The #2 Doubles team of Seniors Nic Hood and Ian Zweifel withstood a tiebreaker in the first set (7-5) before blowing open the second set (6-0) to win their flight. Junior Luke Susud won a back and forth match 6-4, 6-3 at #2 Singles. Sophomore Lance Wells also lasted through a tiebreaker, his in the second set, to win #3 Singles, 6-0, 7-6. Senior Connor Craig lost at #1 Singles, 3-6, 1-6, while #1 Doubles (Senior Jake Brackett/Sophomore Graham Shelton) fell 2-6, 1-6.
If the rain holds off, the Warriors will be right back on the court today in a battle with sectional rival Ben Davis at BDHS at 5:00 pm.
