Braves with convincing win

CCC – The Brebeuf Braves handled their conference foe, Guerin Catholic, in a convincing 41-10 road victory.  When Brebeuf’s initial drive stalled out at the Guerin Catholic 13, an Alex Potts field goal gave them the early lead.  The Golden Eagles benefited from a botched punt snap during Brebeuf’s following possession, taking over at the Braves’ six-yard line.  The Braves’ stout defense was up to the task and forced a Nathan Friedman field goal.  Isaiah Martin would score the first touchdown of the game a few moments later on a 27-yard scamper where he actually recovered his own fumble in-stride while crossing the line of scrimmage.
Leading 10-3 heading into the second quarter, Brebeuf extended their lead when Gabe Wright wound his way through the coverage team during a 45-yard punt return for a touchdown.  Guerin Catholic answered back with a 63-yard drive of their own, capped by an 11-yard touchdown pass from Christian Gelov to Bernie McGinnis.  From here, it was all Braves.  Brebeuf punched the ball into the end zone twice more before halftime.  Caleb Ellison weaved his way through the defense for a 35-yard touchdown run, and Martin bullied his way in again from the one.
The second half continued as the second quarter had ended.  Ellison added another impressive 23-yard touchdown run.  Alec Bevelhimer finished the scoring with a 46-yard field goal.  The Braves defense remained impressive all night.  The Golden Eagles were held to just over 1.1 yards rushing per attempt.  Two sacks and five tackles for loss helped keep the home team under 170 yards of total offense.  The Brebeuf defensive unit was led by Jay Higgins, who ended the night with five solo tackles and five assists.
