Baseball – Roncalli takes two from Brebeuf
Game One
Roncalli – The varsity baseball team beat Brebeuf 2-0 in their conference opener Tuesday night at La Pinta Field. Max Lundy was sensational on the mound, pitching a complete game and striking out 13 Braves hitters. The game was scoreless in the 5th inning when Brian Keeney led off with a double. The Rebels would load the bases and score the first run of the game when August Endris was hit by pitch. Tommy Hansen would later score on a wild pitch to put the Rebels up 2-0, and that was all the Rebels would need. Keeney led the Rebels going 2-4 at the plate and Cole Beckman had a hit. The Rebels return to action Wednesday night at Brebeuf, game time is 6pm.
Brebeuf Jesuit – Both teams were strong on the mound on Tuesday, but Roncalli was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Brebeuf Jesuit on Tuesday. Max Lundy was the winning pitcher for Roncalli. He went seven innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out 13. Shane Bauer took the loss for Brebeuf. He lasted five innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out ten.
Game Two
Roncalli – The Rebels completed a conference sweep of Brebeuf Wednesday night with a 4-0 win. Erik Hommel was fantastic on the mound throwing a complete game shutout, with 8 strikeouts, no walks, and just 88 pitches. Both Nathan Gramman and John Troxell had two hits. The Rebels scored a single run in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th innings. The Rebels were great at producing runs with sac bunts, sac flys, and timely hits. The team is now 6-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Rebels return to action Friday night at Carmel, game time is 6pm.
Brebeuf Jesuit – Erik Hommel led Roncalli to victory on the mound. He allowed five hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking zero. Andrew Dutkanych took the loss for Brebeuf. He surrendered three runs on five hits over five innings, striking out eight. Wright led Brebeuf with two hits in three at bats. John Troxell went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Roncalli.
