Championship Week Recap

It was an eventful weekend around the conference with three different championships decided including our first-ever three-way shared title in conference history. All of that after Brebeuf Boys tennis team clinched the CCC title last week at Guerin and followed it up with a victory on Saturday to finalize a perfect conference season.

This week opened with Brebeuf girls volleyball clinching a perfect 5-0 conference record with a 3-1 win over Roncalli in a very close back-and-forth match. It was the second straight volleyball title for the Braves after the Royals won the first five in conference history. The win moved the Braves to 14-2 on the season. Roncalli defeated Chatard later in the week to move to 3-1 in conference play and 14-5 overall and will play Heritage Christian on the 26th with a chance to finish 2nd in the conference.

Later that same night Brebeuf clinched their second title of the night and fourth title of the fall season with the girls soccer team defeating Roncalli 2-0 to finish 5-0 in the conference. This was the Braves’ fifth title in seven years and moved them to 27-5-1 in conference play since the inception of the Circle City Conference.

The final championship awarded this week was in boys soccer. Heritage Christian clinched their share of the championship Tuesday despite a loss to Brebeuf, via a win by Roncalli. Later in the week Brebeuf beat Chatard to make a 3-way tie atop the conference and with the teams splitting the matches between each other the conference awarded the first ever 3-way shared Circle City Conference Championship between the Royals, Braves, and Eagles. This is Roncalli and Heritage Christian’s first titles of the fall season while Brebeuf now has won a league-high five championships this fall (Guerin Catholic and Bishop Chatard also each have one title this fall).

Wrapping up this week on the gridiron Roncalli moved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play by beating Guerin 49-10 and set up a chance at a Championship next Friday night at Brebeuf (who enters the game 1-1 in conference play). A win will give Roncalli a second straight football championship and fourth overall, while a Brebeuf win would give them at least a share of the title. Chatard will host Guerin next Friday in their first conference game since the last-second loss at Roncalli. Chatard can clinch a share of the title with a win and a Brebeuf victory over Chatard.

Big week around the best conference in Indiana. Goodluck to all of the teams as they wrap up conference play and look forward to their respective state tournaments.
