Boys Cross Country Championships – 9/28/2024
Roncalli, coached by Jeff Buckley, for the first time won the Boys Cross Country Conference Championship held at Guerin Catholic on September 28th! Guerin Catholic’s Golden Eagles were edged out of 1st by one point & finished runner-up. Luke Moster of Guerin Catholic won the Conference title running his 5K in 16:04.14. Other All Conference team members included: JD Haines, Bishop Chatard; Sam Vaught, Roncalli; Malachi Lesnet, Brebeuf Jesuit; Will Lewis, Roncalli; Owen Lewis, Roncalli; Jim Buchmeier, Roncalli; and Willem Hobson, Heritage Christian.
Post season had Brebeuf Jesuit placing 6th at the Ben Davis Sectional with Malachi Lesnet earning All Sectional honors. Roncalli placed 5th at the Shelbyville Sectional with Sam Vaught & Owen Lewis earning All Sectional honors. Bishop Chatard finished 4th & Heritage Christian placed 5th in the North Central Sectional with JD Haines & Phoenix Boyer of Bishop Chatard earning All Sectional honors. Guerin Catholic placed 5th in the Noblesville Sectional with Luke Moster earning All Sectional honors. At the Regional Championships, Bishop Chatard placed 10th & Heritage Christian was 17th at the Brownsburg Regional. All Regional honors went to JD Haines. Guerin Catholic & Roncalli were unable to advance their teams from Regional, although Luke Moster & Sam Vaught both individually advanced to the State Meet. None of the Conference Boys teams advanced from Regionals to State this year.
At the State Championship at Terre Haute’s LaVern Gibson Cross Country Facility, Guerin Catholic’s Luke Moster earned All State honors placing 17th! Bishop Chatard’s JD Haines was 84th, and Roncalli’s Sam Vaught placed 202nd out of the 248 State Finalists.
