Bishop Chatard Wins Conference Football, But Roncalli Advances in State Tourney!
Bishop Chatard, coached by Rob Doyle, won the Football Conference Championship by defeating the other Football-playing Conference members throughout the season! Roncalli finished runner-up. All Conference players chosen by the member school head coaches include:
Bishop Chatard – Danny Adams, Maddox Dwyer, Zach Gantz, Julio Graves, Jax Guidry, Zion Haney, Anthony Hoekstra & Drew Swickheimer
Brebeuf Jesuit – Carter Cosgrove, Nate Johnson, Parker Maiers & Edwin Watson
Guerin Catholic – Jacob Dumas, Quentin Klee, Isaiah Lewis, Jack Linden & James Moody
Roncalli – Collin Ash, Luke Baker, Zane Baker, Will Hegwood, Casey Horton, Alex Jarvis, Carson Keller & Luke Roeder
Post season tournament action found Bishop Chatard, Brebeuf Jesuit & Roncalli in the same 4A Sectional grouping, and Guerin Catholic competed in their 3A Sectional. The Golden Eagles defeated Hamilton Heights & Crawfordsville before losing to Cascade in their Sectional Final. In the 4A Sectional opening round; Bishop Chatard defeated Mooresville, Roncalli defeated Northview and Brebeuf Jesuit defeated Crispus Attucks! In the Sectional Semi-Finals; Bishop Chatard defeated Brebeuf Jesuit and Roncalli beat Danville. In the Sectional Championship hosted by Bishop Chatard, the Royals controlled a great hard nose contest to win the Sectional Championship, 26-6. The Royals then played on the road in Regional action with Yorktown, and won another very hard fought contest – 31-28.Roncalli hosted the Semi-State against the Heritage Hills and ended up dominating the Patriots to WIN, 42-14!
The Royals re-played their first opponent of the year, Bishop Dwenger, for the State Championship on Saturday, November 29th at 3:00p at Lucas Oil Stadium. The game was what a Championship caliber match-up should be with many lead changes and BIG plays by both squads! The Saints scored their final touchdown off of a fake field goal with about 2:00 to go in the game. The Royals were able to get the ball deep downfield in the final second of play and their throw to the endzone bounced off their receiver & a Saint defender and was intercepted by another Bishop Dwenger defender for them to seal the win, 29-36. The Royals Collin Ash was honored by being named the 4A Football State Finals Mental Attitude Award winner!
