Braves Take Conference Team Title / Trojan’s Beckmann to State Final!
Brebeuf Jesuit, coached by Brandon Gill, won the Boys Tennis Conference Championship by posting a 4-0 record against Conference competition! Bishop Chatard finished as runner-up. All Conference players chosen by the member school head coaches include:
Bishop Chatard – Casey Beckmann
Brebeuf Jesuit – Owen Birge, Andrew Held, Harry Stutler & Tony Tancredi
Guerin Catholic – David Cacchillo, Charlie Phillips, Nick Sills & Jack Tiplick
Post season tournament action found Roncalli beating the host Perry Meridian (4-1) & then winning their Sectional Final against Decatur Central (5-0). Guerin Catholic won their opening Sectional match against University (4-1) and then lost to the eventual State Champion Carmel (0-5). Bishop Chatard lost their opening match to eventual Sectional Champion North Central (2-3). The Braves then played the eventual State Champion Carmel & lost (1-4) in the Regional Semi-Finals.
With the Conference Boys Tennis squads eliminated from the team competition the focus turned to the individual Singles play. Bishop Chatard’s Casey Beckmann defeated his Regional Semi-Finalist from Jennings County (6-0, 6-0) and then won the Regional Title beating Richmond’s Alexander Harrick (6-1, 6-1). Beckmann advanced to the State Quarterfinals besting Luke Sorgic of Chesterton (6-3, 6-1). He then beat Yuvraj Dasari of Center Grove in the State Semi-Finals (6-0, 7-5). Casey played a tremendously hard fought State Championship match with Joe Garrean of Homestead before losing (4-6, 4-6) to claim the State Runner-Up Singles player!!
