Brebeuf Jesuit – Brebeuf wasted no time showing 5A #14 Roncalli that this year a different chapter would be written in the lopsided Circle City Conference rivalry, in which the Rebels had won ten of the last eleven games. Senior Adam VanderKooy ran back the opening kickoff 86 yards for a TD, and the Braves were off to the races. When the dust settled, Brebeuf led 31-0 at halftime, en route to a 44-12 victory, arguably the Braves’ biggest conference win since the CCC’s inception.
Brebeuf was again led by mercurial Junior QB Caleb Ellison, who hit an in-stride Gabe Wright for a 52-yard TD on the Braves second play from scrimmage to open the floodgates. Ellison also ran for a 17-yard TD in the second quarter in addition to his 168 passing yards and two TD passes, the second being to do-everything senior Jay Higgins.
Isaiah Martin led Brebeuf in rushing with 91 yards and two TD’s, while Higgins led the defense with eight tackles and the defensive play of the night, stuffing Roncalli’s Baron Huebler for a one-yard loss on fourth down in the second quarter, ending the Rebels’ best chance to score before halftime.
Senior Alex Potts was perfect in placekicking, with 5/5 PAT’s and a 21-yard FG.
Brebeuf, 4-2 and ranked #11 in 3A, looks to move up in the rankings when they host Terre Haute South next Friday night in a rare combination of Homecoming and Senior Night.
