Covenant Christian – The Baseball team (2-1, 1-1) was embattled in another tight contest Wednesday night, as they picked up their first loss of the season on a 5-4 walkoff loss to Brebef Jesuit Prep.  This was the third walkoff game in the Warriors’ three games this season.

Covenant got started early, as they struck for three runs off of Freshman starter Andrew Dytkanych in the first inning.  CCHS led off the game with four straight singles and a walk, before an error on a fielder’s choice allowed the third run to score.  Senior Cam Collins was thrown out at the plate in a bang-bang play after the error.  Brebeuf scratched back with two runs in the second and another in the third to tie the game. The game remained tied at 3-3 until the Braves scored on a bloop single to left in the bottom of the sixth inning off of Collins, who relieved Freshman Brock Buckley on the mound.  Covenant rallied to tie the game in the seventh, as Senior Jake Brackett grounded out to drive in Senior Nick Wilson.  The Warriors were not able to add any others, as Dytkanych struck out two with runners on second and third to end the threat.

Brebeuf got the winning run on on a hit by pitch to lead of the bottom of the seventh.  The runner was sacrificed to second by a sac bunt.  Collins then picked up his third strikeout of the night to record the second out, but Freshman Shane Reed singled down the line in right to drive in the winning run.

The Warriors will be at Cass HS (1-0) on Saturday for a doubleheader with the Kings at 11a/1p.  Cass was ranked #5 in the preseason Class 2A poll.  Cass nipped Covenant 4-3 in a tight contest last season.
