Recap
Covenant Christian –
The Boys Basketball team (7-3, 3-1) survived against a scrappy Heritage Christian team (5-7, 0-3) on Saturday night, picking up a tough Circle City Conference win, 55-46.
Although the Warriors were heavily favored over HCS, the home rims were not kind, as CCHS struggled to make shots. Covenant had to rely on their interior game, scoring 30 of their 55 points in the paint. The Warriors, averaging 9.56 3-pointers per game, shot just 2-for-11 from distance. However, the CCHS defense held the Eagles to just 3-for-22 from 3-point range and forced 16 HCS turnovers on the night. After Covenant jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the game’s opening five minutes, HCS battled to play even with the Warriors for the remainder of the night.
Senior Cameron Shurig led all scorers with 16 points while pulling down 9 rebounds. Junior Trey Flatt and Senior Noah Hedrick also scored in double figures, each chipping in 12 points. Hedrick also grabbed 7 boards in the win.
The Warriors will hit the road for a pair of doubleheaders this weekend, as they close out CCC play on Friday night at Guerin Catholic HS (10-2, 3-0) and then travel to Tri-West HS (4-5) on Saturday night. Both nights are scheduled for 6:00/7:30pm tip-offs. Friday night’s varsity game at GCHS will be webcast on Indiana SRN, beginning with the pregame show at 7:10pm.
