What a Week!

On Wednesday, the Lady Trojans took the Irish to penalty kicks before coming up just short in the City Championship. They are hoping to get revenge on their neighbor this coming Saturday in the Sectional Finals.
On Friday, Chatard was narrowly defeated by Winton Woods in football. The Trojans took the #6 team in Ohio (according to Maxpreps) to the wire, falling 27-28 at the University of Indianapolis. Heritage Christian welcomed Peyton Estes back. He went on to throw for six touchdowns in the first half against Northwest. Roncalli was forced to come from behind after Fishers scored 17 unanswered points to take a fourth quarter lead. The Rebels responded with 14 points of their own to record their 22nd consecutive victory. They will face Sectional rival Decatur Central on the road next week.
Saturday morning saw both the City and County Cross Country Championships. Chatard hosted the City meets at Graham Martin Park. The Heritage Christians Eagles came in 4th (boys) and 7th (girls). Matthew Burton finished in 5th and Becky Madsen earned 9th. Bishop Chatard’s boys finished in 2nd with the girls coming in 3rd. Nathan Kolbus finished in 8th and Abby Teed was 9th. Kat Modrall continued her impressive season by adding another Championship to the list for both herself and the hosting Brebeuf Jesuit Braves. Zoe Simmons (3rd), Katie O’Donnell (7th), and Mikayla Gallagher (8th) all finished in the top eight. The Brebeuf boys were runners-up. They were led by Christian Stevens, who finished third. Nick Perkins finished in 8th for the Roncalli Rebels. Both Roncalli teams finished in 10th.
Maggie Schaffer and Angelica Pfefferkorn finished up their State Championship rounds at Prairie View Golf Course early in the afternoon. Schaffer finished tied for 11th at +12. Pfefferkorn tied for 25th at +18. Pretty amazing finishes for a pair of sophomores!
Later in the afternoon, Roncalli and Brebeuf faced off for the Volleyball County Championship at Southport. The Rebels took the first set 24-13. Brebeuf responded with a 25-23 victory. Roncalli then proceeded to take the next two sets (25-14 and 25-20) to bring home the Championship.
The Braves and Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles kicked off their football conference match up at 7:00 pm. The Braves capitalized on Guerin Catholic penalties and special teams miscues to jump out to a 14-0 lead. The Golden Eagles responded with roughly 4 minutes to play in the half, bringing the score to 14-7. After a series of muffed punts and some solid defensive play, the Braves finally added to the score in the last few minutes of the 4th. They would go on to win 21-7, securing third place for the season and gaining their first-ever conference football win.
Finally, the #1 nationally ranked Brebeuf Lady Braves soccer team defended their County Championship against Lawrence North in this year’s Championship Game. The Braves wasted no time in gaining the advantage. Paige Edens scored twice within the first 20 minutes of the game. Brebeuf went on to add two more second half goals to bring home the title. This group of seniors will graduate having gone 16-0 in County Championship play. The Braves sit at 17-0-1 heading into next week’s Sectionals.
Things do not slow down next week. We have Boys and Girls Soccer Sectionals, Roncalli in the Boys Tennis Regional, and Boys and Girls Cross Country Sectionals. The football draw happened earlier today and the volleyball draw is tomorrow.
