Big Weekend (June 4-5)

Two State Championships, a State Runner-Up, Semi-State Victory and a Regional Championship are just some of the many accomplishments from the conference this weekend.

Saturday was a big day for the conference as the day started with conference champion Brebeuf Baseball winning their first of two regional games 4-0, before capping off the day with an 8-0 victory in the regional finals. This clinched a trip to semi-state for the second straight season for the Braves led by dominating pitching performances allowing 0 runs in both regional games.

Next Roncalli, conference champion and #1 team in the nation, won semi-state to clinch a trip to next weekend’s state championship by climbing to a perfect 32-0 this season. They did it much like the Braves with dominant pitching on Saturday allowing just one run in the two games. Rothrock pitched a shutout with 13 Ks and improved her postseason record to a perfect 11-0 record over the past two seasons. The Royals will attempt to finish off a perfect season in the state finals and continue their current 44-game win streak just three games away from a state record.

The weekend was far from over as not only was the conference dominating on the diamond but Guerin Lacrosse both boys and girls played in state championships after both winning the conference to cap off two incredible seasons. The girls capped off a perfect 20-0 season with a thrilling 7-6 victory over Carmel in the final minutes while the boys fell just short in an equally exciting finish 8-7.

To add to the success Heritage Christian managed to win the 1A girls lacrosse championship on Saturday giving the conference a sweep of the girl’s lacrosse championships. After finishing runner-up in the conference season the Eagles managed to get out to an early 10-2 lead at halftime to clinch their second state championship.

Roncalli track and field also managed 12th place in the state championship led by Zander Hooten (2x all state and set two school records) and Eli Crouch (all state).

Other results: Covenant Christian fell just short in a close battle in semi-state baseball after an incredible run in the tournament. Brebeuf had three runners break school records in the state meet led by Kendall Martin who managed a 5th place finish in the 3200m. Bridget Gallagher (Guerin Catholic) managed a 5th place finish in the 1600m and a 19th in the 3200m. Chatard managed a 3rd place in the state 1600m relay.

Many other individual awards and achievements were handed out this weekend including Lily Cridge winning the Indiana High School Sports Award for Girls Cross Country and our All-Conference Teams for both boys and girls lacrosse.

Congrats to all of the athletes and teams on an incredible weekend.
